Ariella-Sophie Klotho Sternberg is a poet, visual artist, educator, and broadcaster from the Pacific Northwest. Weekends in her childhood were spent exploring the forests of Washington State, fording creeks and learning firsthand of a nettle’s sting. One of the first presents she asked for as a child was a book on wild edible plants. Though she instead received a book on plant poisons, Ariella-Sophie has maintained a lively curiosity about human-centered ecology, studying ethnobotany and sustainable agriculture at the Evergreen State College.
Ariella-Sophie has mentored children and youth in the noble art of becoming. She holds a master’s degree in teaching from Lewis & Clark College, and she has worked as a visual arts teacher in public and private schools for four years. She is an arts advocate as well as an artist, and she is building community among artists in Clackamas County, Oregon.
Ariella-Sophie learned to sew from her mother, and textiles have been a focus of her creative work. She works with botanical dyes, makes books from found objects, and chronicles her experiences with wood and wild winds through poems and prints. Ariella-Sophie is an herbalist and a practicing biodynamic gardener.
